A noted journalist and author, Lerone Bennett, Jr.was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on October 17, 1928. Educated in the public schools of Jackson, Mississippi, he graduated from Morehouse College and has received numerous honorary degrees from several prestigious institutions. Beginning his reportorial career at the Atlanta Daily World, he later joined Johnson Publishing Company in 1953 and moved through its ranks in various editorial positions at JET and EBONY magazines. An author of significant note and reputation, his books and other published works have been translated into French, German, Japanese, Swedish, Russian, and Arabic. His journalistic coverage of the Civil Rights movement has earned him numerous awards and honors.
