We are planning on hosting a showing of the Ken Burns/Dayton Duncan film, “Yosemite” A Gathering of Spirit,” at the Carlsbad Museum and Art
Center, in Carlsbad, NM, as part of National Park Week. This event will include a discussion of the Yosemite Grant Act, the National Park Idea
and the area’s two national park units, Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The event is co-sponsored by
Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the Carlsbad Museum and Art Center.

About the Film: Yosemite has inspired generations of people for thousands of years. On June 30, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act, establishing Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove as the first protected wild land for all time. In addition, this grant marked the first California State Park.
