The event focuses on exploring, learning, sharing and preserving using an “All Things Muir” theme. The 5th annual event will provide visitors the opportunity to relive the legacy of John Muir through outdoor nature activities that will include hiking, educational lectures, journaling experiences and hands-on nature activities to experience what Muir wrote about in his travels to Yosemite.

The event begins Friday, May 30th at 5 p.m. with Silent Auction and Celebration all around town. Muir’s great, great grandson, Robert Hanna, will share photos and family tidbits from the family’s archives. As part of the evening event, the historic town of Coulterville will be offering additional films and activities that include an amazing silent auction, live music, great food and a wine & cheese tasting.

Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Lake McClure Horseshoe Bend launches a day of exploring how hiking healed Muir and now heals combat veterans of recent wars and families with speakers and activities. Festival activities include Bean Creek Preserve Nature Hike at 830 am, nature workshops, Kids Only Nature Adventure, great art, crafts, natural products, lots of different kinds of food, Family Hikes led by Cindy Ross, Warrior Hike led by Sean Gobin and lots of educational presentations.  Special appearance of Peter and Donna Thomas and their Gypsy Wagon. Speakers include:

Cindy Ross, acclaimed author/photographer and Triple Crown hiker (Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide)

Sean Gobin, founder of Warrior Hike will tell why “long-distance thru-hiking” is healing returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Kenny Ballentine- Award winning filmmaker and nature guide

Len McKenzie, long time Yosemite National Park Chief Naturalist and Audubon volunteer leader
