A GENERATION OF LEADERSHIP - FOURTH TERM
Another Term Begins, and a Life Ends
Imagine serving as the president of a country for 12 years.
Now, imagine those 12 years filled with challenging events,
including a national depression and a world war. When FDR was
elected to his fourth term, more terms than any other US president,
he began his twelfth and final year as president. In April 1945,
a few months after he was inaugurated for the fourth time, FDR
traveled to Warm Springs, GA for a physical and mental retreat.
While on this trip, FDR suffered from a stroke and died at the
age of 63. Although FDR was no longer president of the nation,
his legacy continued to affect the country then, as it does
now.
