Leonard Baskin | Funeral Cortage. LEONARD BASKIN

He created one bronze bas-relief sculpture for the FDR Memorial, "The Funeral Cortege." It is located in outdoor gallery Room Four of the Memorial which focuses on the aftermath of World War II.

Widely known as a master printmaker, draftsman, and book designer, Leonard Baskin is perhaps most highly acclaimed for his sculpture. One of the most remarkable aspects of his work is that he has remained committed to the traditional techniques of carving and modeling and continues to consider the human figure the primary motiif for sculpture.

Mr. Baskin's art is characterized by the release of feelings and emotions as triggered by the forms, expressions, and subject matter he creates. His forms are taken not only from the world around him, but also from the world of the past through his knowledge of history, and from the world of his imagination through his literary expertise.

Mr. Baskin was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1922.
