Metroparks of the Toledo Area offers wide range of volunteer opportunities. Historical volunteers assist in programming, archaeological surveys and maintenance of historical sites.

For information on volunteer opportunities at Metroparks, call 419-407-9700. The historical site includes the Fallen Timbers Battlefield and Fallen Timbers Monument, on opposites sides of US 24, as well as Fort Miamis on River Road.

Native Americans fight the Americans

On August 20, 1794, in the Battle of Fallen Timbers, Indian warriors closely pursued the soldiers of the front guard of the Legion of the United States until a light infantry skirmish line forced the Indians to seek shelter amid timbers that had been felled a few years before by a tornado.
