Job Title:  Assistant Collections Manager 

 

Location:  Park museum

 

Project Duration: Ongoing      

Hours Per Week: Flexible, Mon-Fri

Hours Per Month: Flexible

 

 


Description of Duties:  Everglades National Park has a large collection of natural and cultural items stored in its museum.  The Assistant Collections manager will assist with museum, archives and library projects, catalog the library and museum collections, work with museum objects and specimens, prepare collections for storage, assist researchers with access, and perform environmental monitoring.

 

 


Benefits:   The volunteer will receive training and experience in archives processing, arrangement, and cataloging.

 

 

Goal/Outcome of Position:  To organize and maintain museum collections in order to preserve items and allow them to be utilized with ease.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired:  This position requires someone who is detail-oriented and organized.  The volunteer should be interested in museum curation and exhibit maintenance.

Of the 27 species of snakes in Everglades National Park, only four are venomous – the cottonmouth, the diamondback rattlesnake, the dusky pygmy rattlesnake, and the coral snake. The snake to the left is the non-venomous, endangered Indigo Snake.
