Royal Palm State Park was established in 1916 and later became the nucleus for Everglades National Park. It is an expansive area where you will find two visitor centers, three historic sites and many notable places.

Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center

The Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center is at the Homestead entrance. Here you will find information about the Everglades, an informational movie, an interactive gallery display and a bookstore.

Royal Palm Information Station and Bookstore

If you have just one hour in the Everglades, the Royal Palm Information Station and Bookstore is a great place to stop. You can spend as little or as much time here as you would like. Located a little over a mile away from the Homestead park entrance is Royal Palm. Ranger-led walks and talks are conducted here. The visitor center here includes a small bookstore, restrooms and vending machines.

Royal Palm extends all the way to Mahogany Hammock just before Flamingo. This area includes Long Pine Key Campground and all the trails in between the Homestead entrance and Flamingo.
