Temporary Evening Closure of Buttonwood Canal Bridge

Everglades National Park has been doing repair work to the Buttonwood Canal Bridge in the Flamingo district of the park for the past few weeks. Part of the upcoming repair work requires that the bridge be closed for extended periods to both road and boat traffic. Any visitor travelling to the Flamingo area of the park should note that boat and road traffic will be closed as follows through February 24.

  • To minimize disruption, closures will occur during late-night hours (10 pm - 4 am).
  • These closures will begin this Sunday night, January 30 and continue thru Thursday night, February 24.
  • The bridge will be open on Friday and Saturday nights during this period and open on Sunday, February 20 and Monday February 21 for President's day traffic.

During the closed times traffic across the bridge will not be possible. Park Rangers will manage any emergencies that may come up during the closures. Closure Notices are being posted and distributed at the Entrance Station and throughout Flamingo. In addition Traffic Message Boards are in place.

Contact the park general information line 305-242-7700 with any questions.
