See South Florida's Everglades landscapes with the opening of Luis Nuñez, "Everglades, the Real South Florida" oil painting exhibition March 1 through March 31, 2007 at the Coe Visitor Center, Everglades National Park.

The exhibition will feature oil paintings of some of South Florida’s most captivating sights. “I have worked very hard and I am excited to have some of my new paintings presented to the public for the first time at this show,” said Nuñez who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts form Florida International University. “I feel blessed to have three national parks, a national preserve and many state parks right in my back yard. The variety and diversity of landscapes in the Everglades is truly amazing.”

Born in Marianao, Cuba, Luis Núñez has lived in Florida since 1960.  Mr. Nunez , who always had an interest in the visual arts, started painting in oils as a pastime. Shortly thereafter, Luis’ paintings began to reveal an unusual quality, which encouraged him to broaden his artistic horizons and changed from a career in engineering to one of artist. Currently Luis is exclusively dedicated to his painting at his studio in historical downtown Homestead, Florida. He works mostly with oil paints on stretched canvas; his subject matter is varied, from still lives to an occasional portrait. However, landscape painting is his favorite form of expression.  

He has participated in numerous juried exhibitions in the United States. His works are displayed in private collections throughout the United States, Europe, Central America and Australia as well as in public collections such as the Florida International University Art in Public Places, Biscayne National Park, The Miami-Dade College and the Frost Art Museum collections.

Mr. Nuñez's paintings will be on display at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center through March 31, 2007. You can get a preview of the artwork of Luis Nuñez on his website http://www.lnunez.com/. The Center’s own exhibits show wildlife in natural settings and their sounds. It is fun and educational for children and adults. There are also film presentations in the auditorium, a gift shop, and a ranger-staffed informational desk. 

There is no fee to enter the Coe Visitor Center and view the exhibit. The center is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The main entrance to Everglades National Park is located on State Road 9336, approximately 10 miles southwest of Florida City. It is accessible from Palm Drive (SW 344^th St.) off U.S. Highway 1.
