Everglades National Park - Materials For Loan (U.S. National Park Service)

Want to take your students to see South Florida's beautiful coral reefs? How about letting them manage a prescribed fire, or see the land through the eyes of a Native American? Everglades National Park offers teachers the opportunity to request that some items be loaned to them for use in the classroom. These items are loaned free of charge, though teachers may be required to transport them to and from the park.

Traveling Media Libraries
Teachers can now easily bring the wonder and excitement of the Florida Everglades into their classrooms. Through a partnership with several private and public organizations, Everglades National Park is pleased to offer this resource for loan to our national education community.

Teachers may request delivery of one of our traveling media libraries for use with their classes. Each packet includes titles on several facets of the Florida Everglades, including wildlife, wildfire, coral reefs, and climate change. Packets are delivered free to your school and are available for a total of four weeks. Once you are finished, just mail the library back in the return envelope provided.

The traveling media library is the perfect way to prepare your class for a visit to the park. It is also a wonderful alternative for those schools that are unable to arrange a field trip to the 'Glades. E-mail us to request a loan, and begin exploring the river of grass with your students!

Read To Succeed Trunk
Introduce your students to the world of the Miccosukee Indians of Florida with Everglades National Park's "Read to Succeed" trunk. The trunk contains: 37 copies of the The Circle of Life: The Miccosukee Indian Way by Nancy Henderson and Jane Dewey. Targeted for 4th grade readers, the book is a factual account of what a day in the life of a Miccosukee child is like. The trunk also includes Miccosukee Indian costumes (not pictured), props, lesson plans for 5 activities to do with the trunk materials, and a Miccosukee vocabulary list. The trunk is available to teachers for 3-week time periods but is too large to be mailed out. Someone must be able to come to the park headquarters (south of Homestead) to pick up the trunk and to return it by the due date.
