When you bring your class to Ellis Island, consider scheduling a ranger-led on-site education program. The following is a list of our current offerings.

  • Shore to Shore is a curriculum-based 90-minute educational program designed for grades 4-6 (maximum 40 students)
  • Immigration Game Zone is a curriculum-based 90-minute educational program designed for grades 4-8 (maximum 48 students)
  • Island of Hope, Island of Tears is a 30-minute documentary film preceded by a 15-minute presentation by a park ranger (maximum 140 people)
  • Ellis Island 101 is a 40-minute program designed to introduce Ellis Island to large school groups (minimum 48, maximum 127 students)

Notable Ellis Island Immigrants

During the island's 62 years of operation, over 12 million immigrants were processed at Ellis Island, including those who have become notable in society such as: Frank Capra, Bela Lugosi, Baron Von Trapp, Irving Berlin, Max Factor, Xavier Cugat, Rudolph Valentino, Igor Sikorsky and Bob Hope.
