Trunks and baskets in the Baggage Room of Ellis Island.

No matter where your classroom is, you and your students may still experience aspects of Ellis Island!

Our traveling trunk, "Park-in-a-Pack" offers a hands-on experience using items and activities. For classes within the local commuting area, we are working on expanding our off-site and outreach programs. We also offer a videoconference program and are able to connect to schools throughout the United States.

For more information and program availability, email us at STLI_Education_Department@nps.gov or call 212-363-3200 x180.

Did You Know?
Although Ellis Island is federal property and has always been historically considered in New York, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 1998 determined that part of the island was territory of New York while most of the island, which was added after 1834, is within the territory of New Jersey.
