The Eisenhower National Historic Site is seeking students interested in volunteering with the site's Junior Secret Service Agent program. The students will serve as the Agent-in-Charge to assist children ages 7-12 and their families, in completing the site's Junior Secret Service Agent program.  Responsibilities include assisting those wanting to do Junior Secret Service activities by providing an explanation of activities, pointing out where activity stations are located, answering questions, replying to Junior Secret Service radio calls, and issuing aspiring agents their Junior Secret Service badges and certificates. This is a summertime volunteer position for students ages 14 to 18. Students should enjoy working with children, meeting new people and have an interest in history.

On Saturday, June 15, student volunteers will spend from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.at the site in training. They will become familiar with the history of the United States Secret Service and learn basic Eisenhower history through reading materials and DVDs provided by the Eisenhower site. An in-depth site tour will be provided as well as time to complete all the Jr. Secret Service activities in the Jr. Secret Service Agent training manual to become familiar with the program.

Student volunteers will receive volunteer shirts to wear with their personal khaki pants or skirts and closed- toed shoes. Volunteer shifts will be 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.daily. Volunteers should plan to be scheduled for a minimum of one shift a week, but two or three shifts a week would be welcome. Adjustments will be made for family vacation weeks. The Eisenhower interpretive staff will always be nearby if students have any problems or questions.  Parents are welcome to drive to the site to drop off their students or if students already drive, they may park on site in the employee parking lot.  For Gettysburg residents, transportation via Freedom Transit and the Eisenhower shuttle bus can be arranged if needed. This program will run from June 15-August 24and on weekends through October 20thas volunteer staffing permits.

To sign up for the program and volunteer training, please call Richard Lemmers at 717-338-9114, ext. 4413.
