Reservations

As a teacher, if you want to bring a class to Effigy Mounds National Monument you should do the following

  1. Pick several days as possible dates for the visit.  Approximately 6,000 students visit the park annually on organized school field trips so you might not get your first choice.

  2. Arrange enough chaperones for a 15:1 ratio.

  3. Choose from one of the following programs.

    1. Ranger-led hike to Fire Point
This hike takes 2 hours and allows students  the opportunity to interact with a National Park Ranger during a 2 mile round trip hike. This program includes viewing the 15 minute park video, exploring a small museum, and browsing the bookstore.
The fee for this hike is:
                      $30 for 1-30 participants
                      $60 for 31-60 participants
                      $90 for 61-90 participants
                      $120 for 91-120 participants
We generally cannot accommodate groups larger than 120 participants.

    2. Self-guided hike to Fire Point
This hike is similar to the ranger-led hike, however teachers and chaperones may purchase ($0.55) self-guiding trail booklet which is read to the students.  This program is free and also includes viewing the video and exploring the museum.  Allow 1 1/2 hours for this program.

  4. Call the park (563-873-3491) during the appropriate time. Reservations may be made anytime during normal business hours, usually Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30 p.m.

  5. When making the reservation let us know if you have any students with special needs.
