Ed Pettit, the City Paper journalist who created a national stir with his proposal that Philadelphia deserves Poe’s earthly remains more than Baltimore, will do a talk on George Lippard. Pettit will eventually publish a biography on Lippard, who was a much more successful author than Poe during his lifetime, and who assisted Poe as much and as often as he could.

Hal Poe, who is a descendant of one of Poe’s cousins, will speak at the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site. Dr. Poe, a professor at Union University in Tennessee, will share inside knowledge of the most famous member of his family tree.

The Rare Book Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia will devote all 17 of their temporary exhibit cases to the Gimbel Poe Collection, allowing unprecedented public access to this world-class collection. http://www.library.phila.gov
