Kohm Yah-Mah-Nee Visitor Center, Lassen Volcanic National Park, California
This was the first LEED™ Platinum visitor center completed in the National Park Service that is operated on a year-round basis and the first federal LEED Platinum building in the State of California. A 30-kW photovoltaic (PV) system is offsetting all of the electrical needs at the facility. Heating and cooling is fully provided by a high efficient ground source heat pump system approximately 8 months of the year. High-efficiency propane boilers provide supplemental heating during the more severe winter months. High-efficiency lighting (LEDs) is provided for exhibits.
