Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Relocation
Cape Hatteras, North Carolina

Picture 1 Because of natural erosion of the shoreline surrounding the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the National Park Service made the decision to move it approximately one-half mile inland to safer ground. The move was completed in January 2000, and had been managed by the Denver Service Center.

path from the new location for the structure. Feb. 1999

The piles of crushed rock will be leveled, graded and prepared to
receive the steel I-beam mat sections. 06/18/99
