| Today, the Denver Service Center plays an expanded role in the National Park Service. In addition to its planning, design, and construction services, the Denver Service Center also provides parks and regional offices with services ranging from contracting to project management to visual information. Planning and design for national parks today is more complex than ever before. Planning for units of the national park system requires the development of a range of viable alternatives for park management. In addition, park planners must comprehensively assess the potential impacts of implementing the alternatives, provide for meaningful public participation, and incorporate the concerns expressed by the general public, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies. NPS designers and their counterparts in the private sector are charged with providing national parks with aesthetically and environmentally sensitive designs that are also cost-effective. The services and products provided by the Denver Service Center help the parks to protect resources and better serve our customers, the American taxpayers.
