Buttermilk Falls Trail (AT)

This spur trail begins at Buttermilk Falls, the highest waterfall in New Jersey. Starting with a staircase alongside the falls, the trail reaches Woods Road (hikers only), which connects southward to Hemlock Pond. Crossing Woods Road, the trail climbs up to the Appalachian Trail north of Crater Lake

Buttermilk Falls is on Mountain Road, a dirt road in Walpack Center NJ. Mountain Road is gated closed from the first heavy snowfall of the fall or winter until early spring.

Walpack Ridge Trails (Thunder Mountain Trails)
These trails branch northward off the eastern half of Military Trail (above). A loop is formed by taking one trail to the grounds of Thunder Mountain (a facility of Peters Vallley Craft Center) and returning on the other, or by following Ridge Road (hikers only) from Thunder Mountain to Military Trail.
