Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that the cycling and running legs of the Rev3 Triathlon will take place in the park on Sunday, September 14, 2014. "The park provides opportunities for people to be inspired every day, but events like this demonstrate the importance of having places set aside for people to run or ride a bike, to rest or be exhilarated," said Donahue of the Rev3. "These events also provide a boost to the local economy with so many participants and spectators coming in for the weekend," he added. The participants will swim the first leg of the triathlon at Tamiment Lake, outside the park. They will then bicycle down Bushkill Falls Road and turn northbound onto Route 209. Cyclists will turn around at one of 2 distance markers and ride southbound on Route 209. They will then follow Community Drive and River Road to Shawnee Inn where the running leg will begin. The running leg will take place on River Road. U.S. Route 209 will remain open to vehicles during the triathlon. Motorists are urged to use caution when encountering cyclists on the road. Community Drive and River Road will be closed to all vehicles for this event. The northern section of the River Road will re-open around noon to allow access to Smithfield Beach from the north;the southern section of River Road will re-open once all runners have completed the course.For additional information about the Rev3 Triathlon check their website at http://rev3tri.com/events.
