Donahue invites kids of all ages to join park staff, partners, and volunteers for a Junior Ranger Day celebration on Sunday, April 26, 2015, from 10 am to 2 pm at Smithfield Beach. Fees to enter Smithfield Beach will be waived during the event which is free and open to the public. "This is a wonderful opportunity to get the whole family outside together and have some fun in the park," said Superintendent Donahue. "The National Park Service mission is to protect America's special places for future generations to enjoy. Today's Junior Rangers may be tomorrow's conservation leaders and park managers. It's never too early to expose children to the wonders of nature and the stories of our past," he added. This event serves as a kick off for the park's 50th anniversary commemoration and takes place during National Park Week which runs from April 18-26.
A variety of hands-on activities will be offered to help children explore history, nature, and outdoor recreation while learning about the park and the National Park Service. Allow at least two hours to complete all of the activity stations. Participants will be rewarded with a certificate and special 2015 Junior Ranger Day badge. The event will be held rain or shine. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and drinking water. Smithfield Beach is located on River Road in Middle Smithfield Township, PA.
