  • Finding Devils Tower
    Visitors travelling east on I-90, exit at Moorcroft, WY. Visitors travelling west on I-90, exit at Sundance, WY. Take 14 north to 24, follow 24 north to Devils Tower. The nearest commercial airports are located in Gillette, WY and Rapid City, SD.

  • Climate and Weather
    Weather conditions can change rapidly in this area. Severe storms are possible at any time, particularly in the summer and winter months involving heavy precipitation, thunder and lightening, and high winds. Always check the weather forecast (also available at the Visitor Center) before beginning any outside activity. The weather chart will provide you with average weather conditions for Devils Tower National Monument.

  • Hours
    Devils Tower National Monument is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The visitor center is open April 6 through November 26, 2005, then closes for the season. Information can be obtained at the administration building during the winter.

    April visitor center hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays.

    May visitor center hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., open every day.

    Beginning May 28 the visitor center is open every day from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

    On September 5, hours change to 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    The campground and picnic area are open April 23 through the end of October, weather permitting.

    During the winter, visitor information is posted on monument bulletin boards. The Administration Office is open 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Information, publications, and restroom facilities are available. Winter activities include hiking, cross-country skiing, and climbing. No services are available on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day

  • Activities
    The Devils Tower Visitor Center is located about three miles from the entrance of the monument. Interpretive exhibits explain the geologic, natural, and cultural history of the area. The Visitor Center staff provide information about climbing and trail conditions and park activities. The Devils Tower Natural History Association Bookstore is located in the Visitor Center. It is stocked with publications and educational items about geology, history, and climbing for children and adults.     The Belle Fourche Campground is located about 2 miles from the Visitor Center along the Belle Fourche River. Water and restrooms are available; there are no hookups. The campground is operated on a first-come first-served basis. See Belle Fourche Campground for detailed information.

    There are 7 miles of hiking trails at Devils Tower National Monument. The most popular is the 1.3 mile paved Tower Trails that circles Devils Tower itself. Other, longer trails traverse tranquil forests and meadows and afford different view of Devils Tower. Please, see the Trail Guide and Park Map. And, don't forget, hiking is a great time to check out the wildlife

  • Climbing
    Rock climbing at Devils Tower is a popular recreational sport. The tower is acclaimed as one of the premier crack climbing areas in North America and boasts a colorful 100-year climbing history. The non-climbing visitor is encouraged to spend a moment watching the climbers. (How do they get up there?)Those visitors who plan to proceed above the boulder field are required to register before and check in after a climb. Please, review the climbing section.
