FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JAN CONN TO GIVE PRESENTATION AT DEVILS TOWER NATIONAL MONUMENT
Jan Conn will give a presentation on Sunday, July 8 at 2:00 p.m. as part of the Devils Tower Cultural Program Series. She will talk about “Climbing the Tower Fifty Nine Years Ago – In Song and Story” Jan was the first woman to climb the tower using technical rock climbing techniques. Jan was also a member of the first all woman climbing team to summit Devils Tower. This program will take place across from the Devils Tower Visitor Center.
Formerly from Washington, D. C., Jan and her husband Herb Conn have spent a number of years in the west. A large part of that time has been in the neighborhood of the Black Hills of South Dakota, where the two of them often climbed. Jan and Herb went from climbing to caving and have explored over 60 miles of passage at Jewel Cave National Monument. They returned to the great outdoors, but at a slower pace with no severe climbing. Jan now enjoys a more sedentary lifestyle, playing flute with the French Creek Folk and designing rubber stamps.
All programs are free with paid $10/vehicle entrance fee into the monument. For more information contact the Devils Tower Visitor Center at 307-467-5283 x 635 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/deto.

Did You Know?
The top of Devils Tower is about the size of a football field. It's slightly dome shaped and rocky, with native grasses, cacti, and sagebrush. Occasionally chipmunks, mice, pack rats, and snakes are found.
