FULL MOON WALK AT DEVILS TOWER NATIONAL MONUMENT

Discover night time secrets of Devils Tower during a Full Moon Walk on June 30 at 9:00 p.m.  June’s full moon is known as the “Flower Moon”.  As the second full moon in June, it is also a “Blue Moon”.  The walk will provide an opportunity to explore Devils Tower National Monument after sunset to look at the formation and historical accounts of the Tower, local plants and animals, Native American stories, and other nightly wonders.  Participants will meet at the Joyner Ridge Trail parking lot.  A flashlight, jacket and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.  No headlamps will be permitted.  The walk will last just over an hour and is NOT handicap accessible.

Did You Know?
It is believed that the Tower got its name when Colonel Dodge's translator misinterpreted the name to mean Bad God's Tower, later shortened to Devils Tower. Some Indians call it Mato Tipila, meaning Bear Lodge. Other American Indian names include Bear’s Tipi, Home of the Bear, and Tree Rock.
