JUNE VOLUNTARY CLIMBING CLOSURE IN EFFECT FOR DEVILS TOWER
Devils Tower National Monument superintendent Dorothy Firecloud announces a voluntary climbing closure for the month of June.  The 1995 Devils Tower National Monument Climbing Management Plan established a voluntary closure for all climbing routes on the Tower out of respect for the traditional cultural activities of American Indians.

History Association awarded grant
The Devils Tower Natural History Association (DTNHA) has been awarded a $1,000.00 grant from the Unrestricted Endowment held by the Wyoming Community Foundation (WYCF) to fund the last element of the Devils Tower Centennial.

Beginning March 15, 2008 some climbing routes on Devils Tower will be closed to protect prairie falcons.

Devils Tower Falcon Closure Shifts
Devils Tower west and northeast face climbing routes and summit edges, which were temporarily closed to protect prairie falcons (Falco mexicanus), are now open. Climbing routes on the southwest face are now closed between and including "The Thin Dagger" and "Centennial" (routes #173 to 199 in the Devil Tower climbing handbook).

Prairie Falcon Closure
To protect Prairie Falcon (Falco mexicanus) nesting sites, the National Park Service (NPS) will temporarily close climbing routes along the west and northeast faces of Devils Tower beginning March 15, 2007.

Did You Know?
Eradication programs have reduced the black-tailed prairie dog’s range from thousands of square miles to a few scattered preserves like this one at Devils Tower National Monument. They now inhabit about 2% of the area they once occupied 200 years ago.
