Hoop Dancer Wayne Fox Performs at Devils Tower

Wayne Fox, Hoop Dancer, will be performing on Wednesday, July 30th and Thursday, July 31st at 7:00 p.m. at the Devils Tower Amphitheatre. Wayne is a Hidatsa/Arikara from the Ft. Berthold reservation in North Dakota. He is a hoopdancer as well as a traditional and grassdancer. He’s traveled worldwide to countries such as Ireland, South Africa and Costa Rica in order to share his culture. Wayne learned to hoopdance as a tradition passed on to him through his mother’s family. He dances with as many as 28 hoops.
Currently, Wayne is the elementary school principal at Cannon Ball Elementary on the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota. He resides in Mandan, North Dakota with his wife who is a third grade teacher and their children. This summer, Wayne is also busy attending Montana State University in Bozeman in order to pursue his superintendent’s endorsement and ultimately begin a journey towards a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.
This program is free with paid $10 entrance fee into the monument. The program will move to the Devils Tower Picnic Shelter in inclement weather. For additional information contact the monument at 307-467-5283 ext. 635 or visit www.nps.gov/deto.

Did You Know?
Devils Tower is made of phonolite porphyry. Phonolite refers to the ringing of the rock when a small slab is struck, and its ability to reflect sound. Porphyry refers to its texture, large crystals of feldspar embedded in a mass of smaller crystals.
