DEVILS TOWER NATIONAL MONUMENT RECOGNIZES NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY WITH FREE ENTRY

In recognition of National Public Lands Day, September 29, 2007, visitors and commercial tours to Devils Tower National Monument will not be charged an entrance fee.   Overnight camping will be available for $12.00 per night.

As always, the National Park Service appreciates the financial support of all park visitors.  Fees collected have funded many improvements at parks throughout the system.  At Devils Tower National Monument, some of these improvements include resurfacing and striping of the main park road in 2002, rehabilitation of the visitor center exhibits in 2004, restoration of historic log structure exteriors in 2005-2006 and resurfacing and striping the campground road in 2007.

National Public Lands Day began in 1994 with three federal agencies.  Now nine federal agencies and many state and local lands participate in this annual day.  Every public site managed by the federal government will honor National Public Lands Day by providing free admittance.

For additional information contact the monument at 307-467-5283.

Ponderosa pine tree where porcupine has eaten bark

Did You Know?
Porcupines spend a good deal of their lives stripping off the outer bark of trees to expose and eat the cambrium layer. You can see many examples of this at Devils Tower when you walk along the Tower Trail.
