Devils Tower National Monument welcomes back Michael Terry on Sunday, June 29 and Monday, June 30. Michael Terry is a Native American historian, replica maker, author and actor/stuntman of Seminole descent. His informative program gives an overall picture of what 18th and 19th Century Plains Indian life was like. Michael Terry provides a historically accurate and objective overview of Native American history and the impact of westward migration on those cultures.
Michael Terry will be present on June 29 for three programs: between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. On June 30, Michael will be presenting twice, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. These presentations will take place outdoors near the Devils Tower Visitor Center.
Michael Terry has worked on over thirty western films in many capacities. Films such as DANCES WITH WOLVES, GERONIMO, INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD and LAST OF THE MOHICANS are amongst his credits. As a replica maker, he recreates material culture items for museums, artists and films.
On Wednesday, July 2 join Gib Young near the Devils Tower Visitor Center at 4:00 p.m. and for “An Evening with Mr. Theodore Roosevelt” at 8:00 p.m. in the Devils Tower Amphitheatre. During the presentation, Gib will recount Theodore Roosevelt’s time spent in the Dakotas, and how Roosevelt formulated his ideas on conservation and the duty of citizenship and stewardship.
Gib Young is a professional Theodore Roosevelt impressionist. A life long admirer of the 26th President he feels it an honor to portray a man "who lived more in sixty years of life than any other man could have done in a hundred". Gib always knew he bore a remarkable resemblance to Mr. Roosevelt but it wasn't until about ten years ago that a local teacher convinced Mr. Young to appear before a class of 5th Graders. "It was then, that I thought I might be able to do something good with an impression," said Young. He has appeared from New York to Mt. Rushmore as Theodore Roosevelt and before state legislatures and political gatherings as well as before schools, historical societies, and such. Mr. Young is originally from Lafayette, Indiana but now lives and has a business in Huntington, Indiana.
There is no charge for the programs but there is an entrance fee of $10/vehicle into the monument. For more information, contact the Devils Tower Visitor Center at 307-467-5283 ext. 635.
