Lesson Plans & Teacher Guides

Below are sample lesson plans that can be applied to any of our education outreach programs. These package plans include activities to do before your visit and after the visit. If you would like to use any of these with the guest speaker or a guided field trip, please indicate that on your request form. Programs are grouped K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and HS and include plans with topics in the following areas; Ecology, History, Culture, and Geology. These plans can be adapted to any grade level even though they are listed under suggested grade level.

Ecology
Who Lives at the Tower:

This program focuses on the animals that may be seen at Devils Tower National Monument. This program includes a PowerPoint presentation, a hands-on activity, and a question and answer session with the ranger. The program is aligned with the Wyoming Science and/or Social Studies Content Standards. This program will introduce habitat, (food, water, & shelter). Adaptations will also be introduced. Feathers, antlers, tracks, and other props will be used to show signs of these animals found at Devils Tower. We will compare tracks for different items including; the shape of tracks, the number of toes, and also the size.
