The Craig and Doeinck families spent many summers vacationing at Devils Postpile National Monument. The families would make a nearly 24 hour drive arriving at noon to set up camp at Devils Postpile.

Ronald Regan contributed to the local effort to stop a trans-sierra highway which would cut just outside of Devils Postpile National Monument’s park bondary.

Walter Huber was the US Forest Service Engineer who recieved the proposal to turn Devils Postpile into a rock fill dam over the San Joaquin River in 1910.
