Denali National Park and Preserve
Backcountry - Parking
In 2010/2011, if you have a personal vehicle:
  • Vehicles left unattended overnight / multiple nights must be left in the Wilderness Access Center (WAC) parking lot, located immediately adjacent to the Backcountry Information Center (BIC).

  • If that parking lot is full, you will need to use the RV parking lot located at the Denali Visitor Center, located about 0.5 miles (1 km) from the BIC. You will then either walk or catch a courtesy shuttle to the WAC.

  • If you are taking your vehicle into the park for a stay in Teklanika Campground or Savage River Campground before your backcountry trip, you must drive back to the park entrance and then obtain your backcountry permit, plan your trip, and purchase a camper bus ticket. Vehicles may not be left in any campground unattended overnight.

Mount McKinley

Did You Know?
Did you know that Mount McKinley, located within Denali National Park and Preserve, is the highest mountain on the North American continent? Measured from the 2,000 foot lowlands to its snowy summit at 20,320 feet, the mountain’s vertical relief of 18,000 feet is greater than that of Mount Everest.
