Winter Kennels: Toklat Clean Up (13 Photos)
Denali is the only national park in America with a working sled dog kennel. In January 2009, park staff and volunteers took three teams of sled dogs more than 50 miles into the park to continue a debris removal project. All told, they moved 44 loads a total of 147 miles.

Did You Know?
Warmer temperatures have led to dramatic thawing of permafrost. Thaw releases carbon, as once-frozen materials decompose, but allows increased plant growth. Researchers in Denali are studying whether thawing permafrost will increase or decrease world-wide carbon emissions.
