The busy summer season has ended at Denali National Park and Preserve, and visitors can now drive private vehicles on the Denali Park Road as far as the Teklanika Rest Area at Mile 30, weather permitting. As the weather can change rapidly at this time of the year, visitors are advised to call ahead for current road information.

There are two road-related construction projects taking place this fall, but they are expected to have minimal impact on access into the park. The Park Road will be closed at Mile 3 the nights of Tuesday, September 17 through Friday, September 20 from 11:00 pm – 5:00 am in order to replace a large culvert. There may be night closures at the same site on Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24 if the work is not completed this week. Beginning on September 17th, visitors may experience minor, i.e. up to five minute, traffic delays at Mile 3 due to one lane closures.

On Wednesday, September 18 the Murie Science and Learning Center (MSLC) will begin functioning as the winter visitor center, with daily hours of 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (except holidays). Rangers are on hand to provide park information and backcountry permits.

Vault toilets are available at the Mountain Vista Trailhead (Mile 12), Savage River parking area (Mile 15) and the Teklanika Rest Area. Other park facilities west of headquarters, including campgrounds and restrooms, are closed for the season. The Bear Loop of the Riley Creek Campground will be open for free camping, but the water has been turned off for the season. A vault toilet is provided, and campers can obtain water at the MSLC. Gas, food service and lodging are available in the communities of Cantwell and Healy.

Denali National Park and Preserve collects an entrance fee year-round. The entrance fee of $10 per person (for visitors age 16 and older) is good for seven days. Visitors can pay the entrance fee at the MSLC. The majority of the money collected remains in the park to be used for projects to improve visitor services and facilities. Interagency Federal Recreation Passes such as the Annual, Senior, Access, and Military Pass, and the Denali Annual Pass are also valid for entry into the park and can be purchased at the MSLC.
