Phone Reservations for Denali Campgrounds, Shuttle Buses and Interpretive Bus Tours Open February 15

Telephone reservation systems for Denali National Park and Preserve shuttle buses, bus tours and the four largest campgrounds will open for the season on Thursday, February 15, 2007. Phone reservations can be made by calling (800) 622-7275, nationwide or (907) 272-7275, international or local, between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Alaska time) daily. Phone reservations can be made up to the day before the travel date.

The following campgrounds are on the reservation system:

  • Riley Creek
  • Savage River
  • Teklanika River (3-night minimum stay, hard-sided or RV camping only, no tents)
  • Wonder Lake (tents only, must take camper bus)

100% of the sites in these campgrounds are available for advance reservations.

Shuttle buses depart from the Wilderness Access Center, generally on the hour and half-hour, between 6:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. beginning May 19 through September 13, 2007, weather permitting. There is a maximum of eight tickets per reservation. Prices vary by destination. Adult fares range from $19.50 to $37.50, young adults age 15-17 ride for half the adult fare and children 14 and under ride for free. Prices do not include the park entrance fee. Buses that accommodate wheelchairs, bicycles, and campers with gear are available. Please make arrangements at the time of reservation.

Approximately 65% of the shuttle bus seats are available for advance reservations. The remaining seats are made available two days prior to the event date.

Tickets for campgrounds and buses are also available on a walk-in basis in the park at the Wilderness Access Center, beginning two days before the travel date.

Interpretive bus tours depart from area hotels and the Wilderness Access Center from May 13 through approximately September 20, 2007, weather dependent. The Tundra Wilderness Tour is a narrated 6-8 hour tour and includes a box lunch. It travels 53 miles into the park. The adult fare is $83.75 and the child fare (age14 and under) is $42.00. The Denali Natural History Tour is a narrated, 4½ -5 hour tour and includes a snack. It travels 17 miles into the park with several cultural interpretive site stops. The adult fare is $52.05 and the child fare is $25.75. Prices for both tours do not include the park entrance fee. Wheelchair accessible buses are available.

Advance reservations can also be made via fax, mail or online. Online reservations are available at www.reservedenali.com 24 hours a day. The fax forms are posted on the National Park Service website at www.nps.gov/dena. Faxes should be sent to (907) 264-4684. Mail-in requests must be received 30 days prior to the scheduled departure.
