The National Park Service (NPS) has completed the selection process for the concession contracts authorizing sport hunting guide services in the Denali National Preserve, located in the western corners of Denali National Park and Preserve. The contract for the Yenta guide area in the southwest portion of the Preserve was offered to Wayne Kubat of Wasilla, Alaska. A second contract for the adjacent Kichatna guide area was offered to Don Kann from Homer, Alaska. Both contracts are for a term of 10 years, beginning January 1, 2008.

“We are pleased with the results of the competitive selection process, and feel that we have the best and most experienced guides providing services to sport hunters in the preserve,” said Superintendent Paul Anderson.

The NPS received five proposals from experienced Alaska big game guides for the Yenta area and three for the Kichatna area. Mr. Kubat and Mr. Kann are the incumbent concessioners, and both had provided satisfactory service during the term of their prior contracts. The solicitation and selection process resulted in improvements to standards for food storage in bear country, client orientation and hunter safety, fuel storage, and required training for emergency medical service.

Additional information on the contracts may be obtained by contacting Donna Sisson, Chief of Concessions, at (907) 683-9553 or e-mail us.
