  • Canal Visitor Center Closure

    Canal Visitor Center will be closed for construction, starting Monday, May 6, 2013. It will reopen with new exhibits in early 2014.

  • Riverview Road Closure

    Riverview Rd from the Cuyahoga Falls line north to the Peninsula line will be re-paved, beginning the week of April 22. Expect delays. Flaggers will direct traffic. Final resurfacing and striping will take place following the Memorial Day holiday.

  • Bald Eagle Closure in Effect

    RR tracks, and 30 foot right of way on either side, are closed to all foot traffic from the Rt. 82 Bridge at Station Rd, north to the RR tracks at. The Cuyahoga R. downstream of the Brecksville Dam to the Fitzwater Rd Bridge is closed to water activities.

Teachers Spend the Summer As National Park Service Rangers

Brecksville, Ohio - Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) has four participants in the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher (TRT) program this summer. Teacher-Rangers work in national parks during the summer and share their experiences with their students during the following school year, wearing the National Park Service uniform to school when presenting park-related lessons. This program has been an extremely effective way to connect urban students to their national parks.

Kristina Schroeder is a first grade teacher at Ledgeview Elementary in the Nordonia Hills City Schools district. An educator for 10 years, she is excited to build upon her passion for outdoor education through her experience with the TRT program. Her goal is to connect her students, families, and colleagues to all that the park has to offer.

Ashley Foster is a science teacher at Cuyahoga Falls High School where she teaches ninth grade physical science, and environmental biology for eleventh and twelfth grades. During the school year, she is involved in many activities, including coaching girls' golf, ski club, and senior class advisor. Having the opportunity to learn and work in the park has been an amazing way to connect the park to the classroom, as well as being an incredible experience.

Scott Waseman has been teaching since 1990 and is currently a math teacher at Barberton High School. Scott looks forward to making connections from his classroom to CVNP. He stated, "Putting students into realistic situations in the park is a very powerful teaching tool. I hope to re-invigorate my students and my classroom through my summer experiences here at CVNP."

Ellie Reagan is a science teacher at Urban Community School in Cleveland. Ellie loves being a TRT because it gives her a powerful way to bridge her school's students and families to the great spaces and living things in the park.
