Brecksville, Ohio - Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) will offer a special Underground Railroad matinee on Sunday, February 24, 2013. Join National Park Service staff and costumed volunteers as they explore the complexities of the Underground Railroad through the lens of love.

Slave owners justified splitting plantation couples by claiming that slaves felt little pain at losing a mate and cared little for lasting relationships. Heartbroken slaves watched as their loved ones were sold on the auction blocks and many ran away to search for them. In this participatory program help assist a runaway slave in searching for their true love.

Tickets are $12 each for everyone ages 3 and over. The train departs from Rockside Station, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. To register, call 800-468-4070 or visit www.CVSR.com.

Rockside Station is located at 7900 Old Rockside Road, one block north of Rockside Road off Canal Road, Independence 44131.

Did You Know?

Dragonfly image by NPS volunteer John Catalano.

Dragonflies and damselflies look almost alike while flying. However, if you wait until they land, dragonflies lay their wings to the side while damselflies lay them back and above their bodies.
