Cuyahoga Valley National Park Opens Part of the Towpath Trail, July 21, 2011

Brecksville, Ohio - The National Park Service has opened part of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) that was closed to due to flooding conditions. The Towpath Trail is now open from Lock 39 Trailhead in Valley View to Boston Store Visitor Center and from Lock 29 Trailhead to Botzum Trailhead in Akron.
The trail remains closed from Boston Store Visitor Center to Lock 29 Trailhead in Peninsula.
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) service from Peninsula Depot Visitor Center to Akron Northside Station is not affected and regularly scheduled service continues, Wednesdays through Sundays. Bike Aboard! will be available starting Friday, July 22 from Peninsula Depot Visitor Center to Akron Northside Station. Visit www.CVSR.com for schedule.
CVSR has cancelled rain service from Akron Northside Station to Canton Station until further notice.

Flood waters from the Cuyahoga River can contain elevated levels of bacteria, pathogens, sewage, chemicals, pesticides, and other toxins. Risks may include exposure to salmonella, E. coli, and tetanus. Prime growing conditions for allergens and molds may also be present. Never enter closed areas, do not permit your dog to walk in the leftover mud, hose off your boots, and wash all exposed skin immediately with antibacterial soap and water.
CVNP encompasses 33,000 acres along the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio.
