Welcome to
Connecting National Park Watersheds

Does everyone in the world live in a watershed? Yes--and students all around the world study watersheds. Some of these are in or near national parks. Here at Cuyahoga Valley National Park, classes are making connections with students and teachers in Indiana, Illinois, and West Virginia to share their experiences, knowledge, and ideas concerning local rivers and the land they drain. Find out how learning flows when parks become classrooms.

Our rivers are working rivers, affected by people and changed by natural processes. They are monitored because their health is at risk, potentially influencing the quality of life in communities locally and downstream. Each is associated with a national park: Cuyahoga Valley National Park, New River Gorge National River, and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Start with our map sequence to explore the geography of each in more depth. This includes web quest challenges to spark more in-depth study and links to get your investigation started. If you are already oriented to our project, link below for the latest updates from our five partner schools, including student-to-student conversations comparing and contrasting their watersheds. For more background information, select project overview, project goals, and project participants.
