PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED ABOUT TRAIL ROUTE

A public meeting is scheduled Tuesday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at Happy Days Visitor Center, 500 W. Streetsboro Rd., to discuss rerouting a section of the popular Bike & Hike Trail. Currently, users have to ride or walk along Brandywine Road for about a mile.

Metro Parks officials have identified several alternate routes that would improve the
users’ experience and safety. At the meeting, staff will describe the routes being considered, possible impacts and the NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) process. Attendees are encouraged to comment. NEPA could affect plans for the trail because all but one of the alternative routes travel through Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The 33.5-mile Bike & Hike Trail travels southeast from Alexander Road in Cuyahoga County to Munroe Falls and Stow before heading into Portage County. More than 289,000 people used the trail in 2004 and 2005.

The public can comment electronically on the Bike & Hike Realignment via the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment Website.
