 Colorado is a state that is rich in mining history and is economically dependent upon the mining industry. After an overview of this industry, students will use color, streak, luster, and hardness tests to identify a variety of Colorado minerals. (60 minutes)

A Geological Phenomenon (Field Trip)

 Rangers will lead students to various overlooks at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, where they will explore the geologic events that formed the canyon and the forces of nature that continue to sculpt the magnificent Black Canyon of the Gunnison. (2-4 hours)
