Join park rangers, scientists, and artisans as we celebrate the American Black Bear at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

  • Outdoor exhibit area featuring hands on activities for kids and kids at heart!
  • Special guest speakers including bear experts!
  • Wood carving, quilts, and lots of other handmade crafts related to bears!
  • Special programs and presentations!
  • Lots of bear souvenirs!

Activities and programs will take place throughout the event. This event is free!  School groups are encouraged to attend!

Between 1775 and 1810 some 300,000 settlers crossed Cumberland Gap and began settling the land west of the Appalachians. These brave pioneers were following dreams of prosperity in the wilderness of Kentucky.
