"There is no better opportunity for superintendents
to look closely at themselves and create a support group for the
purpose of professional and personal advice and reflection."

Now in its third year, the Superintendents' Leadership Roundtable
is conducted for and by park managers to enhance their skills in
meeting the leadership challenges associated with the accelerating
pace of change and organizational transition. The program recognizes
the extraordinary value of successful relationships in negotiating
increasingly complicated issues with larger and more diverse internal
and external publics. A core belief of this program acknowledges
the unique value of and need for superintendents' participation
in a forum of peers to discuss their successes and challenges. Each
Roundtable has twelve participants, providing opportunities for
park managers to enhance their skills in various leadership competencies.
This program initiative is being organized under the auspices of
the Conservation Study Institute with service-wide support and participation.
The Roundtable is also an integral part of the new Leadership Excellence
Program being developed by the Northeast Region of the National
Park Service.
