  • Trail Conditions

    Trails have been adversely impacted by an active flood season and winter ice storms. They are littered with debris and many markers are missing. All hikers should use a compass and map when hiking in the park. A trail marking project is underway. More »

  • Paddling Conditions

    Numerous portages exist along Cedar Creek. Please plan accordingly when preparing to paddle in the park and be sure you are prepared for a safe trip.

Operating Hours & Seasons

Congaree National Park is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The park's trails and campgrounds are always open!

The Harry Hampton Visitor Center is open 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Tuesday-Saturday. The facility is closed on Sunday, Monday and all Federal Holidays. Restrooms, trail guides and a passport cancellation stamp are available 24 hours/day in the Visitor Center breezeway.

Did You Know?

Spanish Moss

Many trees in the park have Spanish moss growing on them. Spanish moss absorbs water and food from the air and is in the same family as the pineapple.
