Date: May 13, 2013

The public is invited to roll up their sleeves alongside Congaree National Park rangers to celebrate National Trails Day on June 1 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Sponsored by Trader Joe's, The Friends of Congaree Swamp, and American Rivers, the 3-hour event is a great way to give back to your public lands. Participants will meet rangers in the parking area at the Bates Bridge Landing (Hwy 601) along the Congaree River to collect and clean up trash. The area is adjacent to Congaree National Park lands and is located at the end of the Congaree River Blue Trail, a 50-mile paddling trail from Columbia, SC to Bates Bridge Landing (Hwy 601). Trash along the Hwy 601 corridor and in the bridge area directly impacts Congaree National Park and the Congaree River. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Snacks, water, and trash bags will be provided. For more information contact Volunteer Coordinator Corinne Fenner, 803-647-3964 or Corinne_Fenner@nps.gov. To register, call the Harry Hampton Visitor Center 803-776-4396 ext. 0.
