The public is invited to join park rangers and volunteers for programs at Congaree National Park in January 2013.All programs are free and begin at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center.

Big Tree Walk: Join one of Congaree's founding fathers, John Cely, for a special off-trail exploration to see why Congaree is called a forest of champions. Dress for the weather, bring snacks and water. Registration is required by calling 803 776-4396. January 5, 1:00-4:00 pm

Nature Discovery:Explore the boardwalk with a park volunteer to look and listen for animals in the forest. January 5, 12, 19 @ 9:30 am

Tree Trek:Take a trek along the boardwalk with a ranger to see the park's towering trees. January 26 @ 10:00 am & January 6, 12, 13, 19, 27 @ 2:00 pm

Weston Lake Wilderness Hike:Join a park ranger for a 4.5 mile hike into Congaree's wilderness. Dress for the weather, bring snacks and water. January 26 @ 1:30 pm

An international biosphere reserve, Ramsar Convention Wetland of International Importance, and federally-designated Wilderness area, Congaree National Park serves as a classroom and laboratory for visitors, students, and scientists from around the world. Visitors can explore 26 miles of hiking trails, 2.5 miles of boardwalk, a wilderness canoe trail, campground, and visitor center, each providing unique experiences. The Harry Hampton Visitor Center is open 9 am-5 pm, 7 days per week.The facility is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day each year.
