Come learn about how you can protect your homes and communities from wildfire. Saturday, May 2 is National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day 2015 (http://wildfireprepday.org). As a part of the effort, Congaree National Park and the South Carolina Forestry Commission (http://www.state.sc.us/forest) are partnering to host the FireWise Education trailer in the Harry Hampton Visitor Center parking lot from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Visitors are invited to explore a variety of interactive displays about what landowners and homeowners can do to minimize their risk from wildfires. The trailer, which is funded in part by the National Park Service and other federal agencies, will be staffed by employees of the SC Forestry Commission to provide additional information and answer questions. There is no cost for the trailer display or admission to the park.

The Harry Hampton Visitor Center is open 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Tuesday-Saturday, year-round. The facility is closed on Sunday, Monday and all Federal Holidays. Visitors are encouraged to explore Congaree at any time, as the park's trails and campgrounds remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Law enforcement and emergency services are available to visitors 7 days a week.
