Search Form Element

The Search Form Element renders an HTML form with a query edit field, a search button, and other options such as a subsite scope, number of results per page, labels, entry field size, etc., to allow authors to determine the look and feel, complexity, and scope of the search form. Combined with the Search Results Element, this Element enables the creation of a sophisticated full-text search interface optimized for site design.

Note: For best results, each page should include only one Search Form Element.

Also note that because the Search Form Element renders an HTML form, it should not be added to either a Base Template or to Custom Script Elements that use HTML forms.

To make your forms more universally accessible, CommonSpot includes the HTML statement

(ARIA) role="search"

with every Search Form Element instance, automatically assigning the search role to this Element.

ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) roles provide users of assistive technologies "landmarks" for more easily navigating content. See the description of Container Element ARIA Landmark options and "Developing Accessible Content in CommonSpot" in the Administrator's Reference for more information.

To insert a search form, select this Element from the Search Elements section of the Element Gallery. Once inserted onto the page, the following ghost text displays:

Because the Search Form Element has no content per se, the only configurable properties are the Layout and Font & Color properties, available when styles are not enabled. While in Author mode, clicking the search form directly or the Edit Item icon displays the Layout Properties dialog.
