Yorktown, Va. – The Historic Triangle Shuttle, the public transportation service connecting America’s Historic Triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown, will operate daily between March 16 and November 1 in 2009. Provided as a free service by the National Park Service, the two routes of the Historic Triangle Shuttle depart every 30 minutes from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, one traveling along the Colonial Parkway to Jamestown, the other following the Parkway to Yorktown.
The Historic Triangle Shuttle provided more than 100,000 rides to Williamsburg area visitors in 2008.
Once arriving at Jamestown and Yorktown, additional shuttle services provide transportation to the various attractions. The Jamestown Area Shuttle provides transportation around the Jamestown area, with continuous service between Historic Jamestowne, the Glasshouse, Jamestown Settlement and Jamestown Information Station parking area along the Colonial Parkway. For visitors riding to Yorktown, the Yorktown Trolley provides service between the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center and the Yorktown Victory Center, as well as several stops between in the historic village, including Riverwalk Landing.
The buses for the Historic Triangle Shuttle are provided by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as part of a Cooperative Agreement with the National Park Service. Additional input and coordination in the development of the Historic Triangle Shuttle system was provided by APVA Preservation Virginia, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and York County.
Historic Triangle Shuttle
The keystone of the transportation services is the Historic Triangle Shuttle, which provides free, daily service along two routes from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, one leg running along the Colonial Parkway to Jamestown, the second following the Parkway to Yorktown. Service to Jamestown departs from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center daily on the half-hour between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and upon arriving at Jamestown, makes stops at both Historic Jamestowne and Jamestown Settlement. Return service to Colonial Williamsburg departs every half-hour from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and makes a final departure at 5:15 p.m.
Service to Yorktown departs from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center daily on the half-hour between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and makes stops at both the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center and the Yorktown Victory Center. Visitors can board for return service to Colonial Williamsburg from either the Yorktown Battlefield or the Yorktown Victory Center, with pickups every half-hour between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., and a final pickup at 5:15 p.m. Visitors should note that the Historic Triangle Shuttle merely provides transportation to Yorktown; it does not provide interpretive tours or transportation to individual attractions around the Yorktown Battlefield.
Jamestown Area Shuttle
Once arriving at Jamestown on the Historic Triangle Shuttle, visitors have the opportunity to visit all that Jamestown has to offer by making use of the Jamestown Area Shuttle. Completing a loop approximately every 10-15 minutes, the Jamestown Area Shuttle makes stops at Historic Jamestowne (including the Visitor Center and Glasshouse), the Jamestown Settlement and the Jamestown Information Station along the Colonial Parkway (seasonal operation).
The Jamestown Area Shuttle service is free of charge and operates daily from March 16 through November 1 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Upon arrival in Yorktown, visitors can ride to the many historic sites throughout the village by means of the Yorktown Trolley. Provided as a free service by York County, the trolley provides transportation throughout the village of Yorktown from the Yorktown Battlefield to the Yorktown Victory Center, as well as several stops in between, including Riverwalk Landing (NOTE: The trolley does not travel to or make any stops along the Yorktown Battlefield tour roads).
The Yorktown Trolley is free of charge and operates daily from March 16 through November 1, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
